Drywall Problems That Happen On Real Jobsite

I ran into a problem on the jobsite the other day while scraping popcorn texture to repair a ceiling crack, and it made me think I should write about how it never fails that things come up during drywall work you didn't expect. I was scraping back some loose texture on both sides of a ceiling crack when my knife slid under the texture way too easily. I scraped further hoping to find solid bonded texture to drywall, but to no relief the knive kept going and texture kept falling to the floor in sheets. By the time I reached solid bonded texture I had about a 6 foot circular area with no texture and a sharp height difference between the rest of the texture and the drywall paper. Time to fill in that area with joint compound.

Airlines Always Seem to Split When The Job is Far Away From Home Depot

Of course when your on the last day of a job and want to get done spraying the texture repaired areas whe airline splits right where it connects to the texture spray hopper. This has happened many times in my 24 years. Always on the last day of the job, when I am in some small town far from a store that sells airhose and fittings. I finally changed the connection to a regular hoseclamp and repair nipple so when it splits i just loosen the clamp cut away the split hose and reconnect the freshly cut section of airline to the hopper. Day saved, and I don't have to make another trip back to the job.

Power sander motor brushes fail when you need the sander the most.

Airless Sprayer ball valve fails to seat and prime when you need to get the drywall sprayed.

Short a pan of mud when trying to finish coating

These events never fail in drywall. I have just learned to expect the unexpected and roll with the punches.
