Plastering

Plaster has a fascinating history that dates back thousands of years. It was first used as a building material and for decoration in the Middle East at least 7,000 years ago. In ancient Egypt, gypsum was burned in open fires, crushed into powder, and mixed with water to create plaster. This plaster was used as a mortar between the blocks of pyramids and to provide a smooth wall facing.

The Romans brought plaster-work techniques to Europe, where it became an essential part of their architecture. They used plaster to create large figurative reliefs for walls, though few of these have survived. In ancient Greece, plaster of a fine white lime stucco was used to cover the exteriors and interiors of temples.

Plaster continues to be a popular material for finishing walls and ceilings. MrWalls offers veneer plaster and tadalak waterproof lime plasters for bathrooms and wet areas
