From Popcorn Texture to Smooth
MrWalls has converted hundreds of popcorn ceilings to bright modern smooth ceilings. The process will vary depending on whether the texture has been painted. If it was never painted spraying water on the texture will reactivate the water base glue allowing the texture to be easily scraped off onto plastic drop tarps. Repairs are then done for any cracks and gouges. Finally the ceiling is sanded and primed with a sealing primer such as oil based Kilz or Bin. This primer is important to seal the powdery surface when scraping popcorn ceilings to avoid peeling of the ceiling paint down the road.
If the ceiling has been painted we will either smooth plaster over the texture or install a layer of drywall over the existing ceiling.
