Why You Should Hire MrWalls Drywall & Painting

The Services We Offer

Most contractors want to be everything to everyone. They end up being mediocre at most of it. At MrWalls, we stay focused on two things, walls and ceilings. We are a specialist and our goal is always to strive to be the best at what we do. We focus on the surfaces that make your house feel like a home, the walls and the ceilings.

Drywall Installation

Hanging rock is about more than just speed. If the installation is sloppy, the house will struggle to handle the settling and shifting that happens in Western Mass. We focus on precision, ensuring every sheet is secured properly so you don't deal with nail pops six months later. Whether it is a new addition or a full home build, we get the foundation of the wall right.

We start by supplying quality drywall materials and supplies and delivering them to the jobsite. We take the time to install the gypsum board securely at the corners and seams, measuring and cutting the boards with a sharp blade knife and tape measure.to ensure a tight, secure, and lasting finish. Proper installation not only enhances the look and appeal but also contributes to the overall durability and how long the wall or ceiling lasts. We only use drywall screws, not nails, to eliminate nail pops. We take the time to measure accurately, cut precisely, and secure each panel firmly for the best quality job.

Drywall Repair

Life happens to your walls. Kids throw toys, furniture scuffs the hallway, and doorknobs find their way through the drywall. We fix the holes so you can't tell they were ever there. We don't do "band-aid" fixes that show a bump under the paint; we sand until the repair is flush with the original surface.

We fix cracks, holes, and nail pops, repair and patch holes that are made from electricians or plumbers accessing the space behind the drywall. Our team in the pioneer valley specializes in delivering high-quality repairs that not only restore the integrity of your walls but also enhance the overall appearance of the walls and ceilings. Whether we repair your ceilings or restore your walls, we guarantee professional results, satisfaction, and that it will look like it never happened.

Plaster Repair

Older homes in the Pioneer Valley have character, but they also have horsehair plaster that eventually cracks and sags. You cannot fix plaster the same way you fix modern drywall. We understand the difference. We stabilize the old lath and use specific compounds to bridge the gaps so your historic walls stay intact without losing their look. Plaster ceiling cracks are common. Older homes often have plaster that is sagging and delaminating from the lath. If left long enough, sections may fall off. While plaster is tough against water, leaking over time can deteriorate the cement that holds it together and leave holes. We can patch and repair plaster holes, cracks, and imperfections. If the plaster is bad enough, we offer to laminate new drywall sheets over the plaster, sandwiching the plaster to the lath and giving a strong, crack-free drywall finish.

Drywall Finishing

The drywall finish is where a drywall contractor shows his experience. It is also the point where you will spot an inexperienced contractor. With 24 years of experience MrWalls Drywall & Painting offer a high-level finish that only comes with many years of experience and from natural French canadian talent. Since there were no schools teaching the drywall trade in the 1960s the first group to learn ending up passing the skill on to their friends and family that spoke the same language. Very quickly drywall became dominated by French Canadians from Quebec Canada. It remained that way until the late 1990s. MrWalls is one of the companies still owned and operated by a French Canadian.

Drywall taping is the first step where paper tape is embedded into all purpose joint compound and the excess is wiped off. We start by taping the seams and butt joints. Taping the corners folding the tape so that half is on each side of the corner. We install and fill the cornerbeads on outside corners, and install the no-coat tape on corners over 90 degrees. After the first coat is dry usually overnight, we then second coat. Second coat starts by covering the tape with compound and filling the recessed seams flat, the corners get one side coated.

The final finish coat is a thin, tight skim over all the wall and ceiling joints to fill any tiny holes or scratches and leave the surface smooth, flat, and feathered in. Every job is looked at separately to determine which areas will be level 4 and which areas need a level 5. We include Level 5 skim coats in rooms with lots of natural light because it avoids problems down the road when the paint goes on. Any walls that will be painted with satin or semi gloss paint also get a level 5 finish. We make sure the walls are actually flat before the first drop of primer hits the surface.

Drywall Taping

Drywall Taping is the structural heart of the wall. If the tape is not bedded correctly, the seam will eventually bubble or crack. We take the time to spread the compound correctly, lay the tape straight and wipe out any excess mud. We insure there are no hard edges feathering the compound out so the transitions are invisible. We do not rush this stage because we know it determines how the walls will look for decades to come.

Popcorn Ceiling Repair

Trying to patch a popcorn ceiling with a spray can is a recipe for a bright white eyesore or a road salt looking repair. We match the existing texture so it blends into the rest of the ceiling. Repairing popcorn texture is a skill that requires experience and the right equipment and a lot of patience to get the ceiling texture to look original.

We remove popcorn ceilings to refresh your space, giving it a modern and stylish look that elevates the overall ambiance of your home. Whether you choose to fix the existing popcorn texture or completely remove them, we can handle it. If they are painted, we can sandwich drywall over the ceiling texture. The lowest cost option if the texture is painted is to skim coat or plaster over it with joint compound in multiple coats. The finished product is a nice flat, smooth surface that gets painted.

Popcorn Texture Removal

If you are tired of the 1970s look, we can take it all off. We use a wet-scraping method that keeps eliminates the dust. Scraping reveals the raw drywall paper underneath. Once the texture is gone, we sand any remaining powder off and prime the drywall. If needed we skim the surface smooth so you can finally have a ceiling that doesn't attract cobwebs and dust. If the house was built before 1980 there is a chance the popcorn contains asbestos. These ceilings can't be disturbed without testing first. If the budget doesn't allow for testing or it has been painted more than once, we have the option to overlay drywall or skim coat the ceiling smooth.

Interior Painting

We are drywall experts who also paint, which means we see the flaws other painters ignore. We handle the prep, the priming, and the final coats with a focus on straight lines and even coverage. We don't use flashy words to describe a paint job; we just do the work so it looks professional.

Once the joint compound is dry we sand all the edges where the compound meets the paper face, which feathers and blends it in together smoothly. If you have us paint, we brush and roll two coats of quality Sherwin-Williams paint over all walls and ceilings, making sure not to leave lines and leaving an even roller texture.

Water Damage Ceiling Repair

A roof leak or ice dam can turn your ceiling into a yellow, sagging mess. We cut out the ruined material, verify the area is dry, and replace the rock. We don't just paint over a water stain; we fix the structural damage so the ceiling is safe and clean again. Water damage can be expensive but it is almost always covered by Homeowner's insurance. We can work with your insurance adjuster to restore your home to pre loss condition. Ice dams water damage is something we do every spring. Many homes in the pioneer valley have water that backs up under the roofing shingles causing brown spots and wet insulation in the walls.

Drywall Repair After Plumbing Work

Plumbers are great at fixing pipes, but they are usually terrible at closing the holes they leave behind. We follow the trades and patch the access holes in your bathrooms, kitchens, and basements. We make the transition from a "plumbing emergency" back to a "finished room" as fast as possible.

Mold Remediation

Moisture in a basement or a bathroom leads to mold, and you can't just bleach it away if it's inside the drywall. We safely remove the affected panels and replace them with moisture-resistant materials. We prioritize your health and the integrity of your home over a quick, cheap fix.

Hang Drywall

Whether you hang the drywall boards or we do, it's important to properly screw the drywall to the framing. Nothing is worse than having screw pops in a new ceiling. Setting the drywall screws at the correct depth will ensure your walls and ceilings stay looking good long into the future. When hanging over existing drywall or plaster, it is important to use screws that are long enough to reach at least 3/4" into the framing.

The second thing to consider is the thickness of the drywall. Drywall comes in 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", and 5/8". 5/8" drywall is called type X and is used in garage walls and ceilings that are against occupied space. 1/4" drywall is very flexible and used for curved walls and for laminating over existing cracking plaster. 1/2" drywall is standard and used everywhere else. In bathrooms or basements that are prone to humidity and moisture, it is important to use green or purple mold and moisture-resistant drywall. The paper is treated with a chemical that prevents mold growth, and the core of the board has fiberglass fibers to resist sagging in humid environments. If you need a drywall hanger in Massachusettts MrWalls is the company.
